Who we are

Venture Hill (venturehill.io) is a matching network that connects deep-tech startups with investors and with public funding opportunities. It is operated by Hyperion Technologies, LLC d/b/a FedTech ("FedTech", "we", "us"), 4401 Wilson Blvd, Suite 510, Arlington, VA 22203.

This policy explains what we collect through Venture Hill, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have. FedTech's general privacy notice at fedtech.io/privacy-policy covers FedTech's website and other services. Where the two differ for Venture Hill, this policy applies. Questions or requests about anything here can go to hello@fedtech.io.

What we collect

We collect the information you give us when you join and build your profile:

  • Account details: your name, work email address, role or title, and phone number if you add one. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash, so we cannot read it.
  • Organization profile: your company or firm name, website, headquarters location, description, sectors, stage, founding year, team size, revenue status and yearly revenue, and whether you build hardware, software or both.
  • Startup funding details: the kind of funding you want, the amount and type of your current raise, whether you have a lead investor, rounds raised to date, public funding awards, and what you are looking for.
  • Startup technologies: names, descriptions, readiness levels, IP status, sectors and federal funding history for the technologies you list.
  • Investor details: your thesis, stages, sectors, check sizes, regions, fund details, recent investments, and the points of contact you list. Points of contact can include the names, roles, email addresses and LinkedIn pages of colleagues; please add only people who have agreed to be listed.
  • Private notes: fields marked private in the product, such as your ideal partner, your focus this quarter, or the startups you are not interested in.
  • Optional uploads and links: a pitch video and a data room link, if you add them.
  • Activity: your matches and the actions you take on them, such as introduction requests, messages and ratings.
  • Waitlist sign-ups: the name, email address, organization and role you give us on the waitlist page.

Profiles built from public sources. Before launch we created starting profiles for some companies and investment firms using public information such as their websites. Someone at that organization can claim the profile with a work email address and correct it, or ask us to remove it.

Technical information. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, which we use for security and troubleshooting.

Please do not submit proprietary information, Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), or classified information. You confirm this when you finish setting up your profile.

How we use it

  • To create and run your account and profile.
  • To match startups with investors and with public funding opportunities, and to explain why each match fits.
  • To show your profile to other members as described in the next section.
  • To send you account emails, such as sign-up confirmations and password resets, and notifications about your matches.
  • To keep Venture Hill secure, prevent misuse, and fix problems.
  • To improve matching, including by studying profile and match data in aggregate.
  • To tell you about FedTech programs and services related to your profile, such as support for SBIR and STTR applications. You can ask us to stop these messages at any time.
  • If you are an investor and choose to join VentureMatch, to add your firm to FedTech's VentureMatch investor network.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Venture Hill does not currently send your information to outside AI model providers. Match explanations are produced by our own software. If that changes, we will update this policy first.

Who can see your information

  • Other members. Your organization profile is visible to signed-in members. For startups this includes your description, sectors, stage, location, technologies and public funding awards. For investors it includes your thesis, sectors, stages, check sizes, fund details and recent investments.
  • Private fields are never shown to other organizations. We use them only for matching.
  • Investor points of contact are shown only to startups that the investor is matched with.
  • Contact details and data room links are shared with another member only when both of you agree to connect.
  • FedTech staff who run Venture Hill can see your information to operate, support and improve it.
  • VentureMatch. If you are an investor and say yes to VentureMatch, we share your Venture Hill profile with FedTech's VentureMatch team, which uses it to include your firm in its investor network and to send you startup profiles. You do not need to fill out a separate form.
  • Service providers that run parts of Venture Hill for us, such as our hosting and database provider and our email provider. They may use your information only to provide those services to us.
  • Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our members, FedTech or others.
  • Business changes. If FedTech is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, under this policy or one at least as protective.

Your choices

  • You can edit your profile at any time from your account.
  • You can change whether you want public funding, private funding or both, which changes who you are matched with.
  • You can delete your account yourself at any time with Delete account at the bottom of My Profile. That deletes your login and your company profile, matches, pipeline and intro history right away.
  • To get a copy of your information, correct something you cannot edit yourself, close your account, or have a profile built from public sources removed, email hello@fedtech.io from the address on your account. We aim to complete requests within 30 days.
  • You can ask us to remove you from the waitlist or stop non-essential emails at any time.

Depending on where you live, for example in California, Virginia, the European Union or the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights over your personal information. Contact us at hello@fedtech.io and we will respond as the law requires.

Cookies

Venture Hill uses only the cookie it needs to work: one that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Security and retention

We use encrypted connections, store passwords as one-way hashes, and limit access to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us at hello@fedtech.io if you think your account has been misused.

We keep your information while your account is open. When you close your account, we delete your profile and account information, except where we must keep something for legal reasons. Backup copies are overwritten on their normal schedule, generally within 30 days. Waitlist entries are kept until launch outreach is finished or until you ask us to remove them.
